Immersive Semester to Oslo, Norway
Fall 2018 – LA Department.
Leila Tolderlund, Assistant Professor (CTT) and Associate Chair of the Landscape Architecture Department at CAP, UCD and Joern Langhorst, Associate Professor, Landscape Architecture and Director of the Master of Urban Design Program led the immersive semester fall 2018.
The immersive semester provides a unique opportunity to investigate and experience landscape and urban space and place in a much deeper and broader way than usually possible in a studio setting. Two supporting seminars were closely integrated and coordinated with the immersive studio to contribute background, content, methods and skills. For full immersion, participating students were required to exclusively participate in the full immersive cohort of classes for the full fall semester.
This Immersive Semester represents a rare and exciting opportunity for in-depth explorations of urban space and design in one of the most progressive regions of the world. In this immersive semester we investigated and observed Denver and Oslo up close to explore city as a human habitat and investigate how different approaches and responses to climatic and geographic conditions, public space, the layout and organization of the city and its infrastructural systems contribute to green-blue and democratic design solutions.
